Where
An optional 5K sponsored memory walk from Pendleside Hospice to Thompson Park along the Leeds and Liverpool canal will take place with registration from 5pm, with the walk starting at 6pm. The walk is on towpath and is pram and wheelchair accessible (Please note head height and towpath under the bridges on this route is single path).
Sponsorship forms will be sent out in the post to you or you can set up a Justgiving page from our campaign platform.
PLEASE NOTE THOMPSON PARK DOES NOT PERMIT DOGS - We therefore advise you not to bring your dog on the sponsored walk.
If you are taking part in our sponsored walk, you are welcome to park at Pendleside Hospice prior to the walk commencing. Please note car parking space is limited, but there is plenty of off street parking. Transdev have kindly agreed for all supporters taking part in the sponsored walk to receive a free bus trip back to Pendleside Hospice by catching the normal bus service outside of St Peter’s Church, Church St, Burnley (situated close to Thompson Park). A voucher will be given at the Hospice when checking in before the walk starts, and will entitle you to your free trip. Times/spaces are subject to availability, please check bus time table.
Entertainment and Refreshments are available in Thompson Park from 6.30pm
The Memorial Service will take place from 8.20pm
What to expect
An incredible experience to celebrate life together. Memories on the Lake brings together individuals from all ages, backgrounds and walks of life to join in one emotional and memorable night. Come light up the lake.
Enjoy the serene atmosphere whilst reflecting on memories. The evening of entertainment and reflection will start from 6.30pm with our memory service starting from 8.20pm, relax and feel the peace of all those around you as you observe and take in the beautiful sight of hundreds of lanterns on the lake.

Entertainment will include a choir, solo performer, bag piper and much more throughout the evening.
Bring your picnic blankets and deckchairs and enjoy the atmosphere.

Memorial Floating Lantern
LAST DAY FOR ONLINE PURCHASE WILL BE WEDNESDAY 14th MAY.
Lanterns can be purchased on the day in the park but loved ones name won't be printed on the lantern and will have to be written on.
A minimum suggested donation for a memorial floating lantern is £10, each kit contains:

Personalisation station (where you can add your personal message to remember your loved one before placing it on the lake)
*The price covers the cost of collecting and removing the floating lanterns from the lake following the event as well as cleaning up any trash that may have been previously been in or around the water.
Memorial Photo on big screen at event
You can make a donation to have your loved one's photo shown on the big screen during the service, you can upload this on our website or send this to [email protected]. Last day to upload your photo is Sunday 11th May.
Sustainability
Lanterns will be cleaned up after the event by staff and volunteers. In addition, we pick up any trash that may have previously been in or around the water. The lanterns are made from rice paper so they are as eco-friendly as possible and we will reuse and recycle the LED candles.
